Czech conversation courses for EU citizens
We will begin new Czech language courses on June 3, 2024. You can register from 20 May to 26 May, 2024 using the form at the bottom of this page.
- The courses are intended for all citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA), who are living long term in the South Moravian region.
- Clients outside of the EU and EEA cannot sign up for the courses.
- Conversely, clients with Czech citizenship can sign up for these courses.
Frequency of lessons: 2× per week according to schedule, 5 weeks.
Course Aims: conversation
Students will be able to practice things they’ve learned on the grammar courses and train their speaking skills on various topics. Students should enrol in a conversation course at the same level as the grammar course they most-recently attended (for example, if you attended the grammar courses A2.1, A2.2, or A2.3 you should register for the conversation course A2).
Levels and topics:

| A1: MON+WED, 17:30–20:00 | The course will be aimed at expanding students' vocabulary in real life situations (in the restaurant, with family, accommodation, health, hobbies, travelling, and so on), by doing things like creating dialogues, writing texts, and practicing correct pronunciation. |
| A1: MON+WED, 9:00–11:30 | This course would focus on common situations (at the shops, at the doctor's, on the street, etc). Part of the course will include having conversations and playing word games. We will focus on simple board games, roleplay, and short quizzes. |
| A2: MON+WED, 7:30–9:00 | The aim of this course will be to prepare students for the speaking part of the A2 exam (for long term residence). We will learn how to say in Czech what we think, what are our likes and dislikes, what we're unhappy or dissatisfied with. Students will learn how to describe their ideas, preferences, explain how they're doing, and gain the ability to describe people, processes, and things around them. We will focus on the following themes: accommodation, travel, daily life, food and drink, shopping and services, weather, work, free time and fun, education, and health. |
| A2: MON+WED, 17:30–20:00 | This conversation course is designed to build on vocabulary learned in A2 classes and to put it into practice. Exercises will focus on themes like meeting people and hobbies, accommodation, travel and finding your way around a city, health and lifestyle, food and national cuisines, art and nature, countries and national traditions. We will also undertake at least one walk around Brno. If the weather allows it, we will attempt at least once a week to combine our learning with outdoor activities - a picnic in the park, a visit to a gallery, meeting on a restaurant terrace, or just taking a short walk to get ice cream. |
| A2: TUE+THU, 18:00–20:30 | This conservation course will focus on controversial themes. We will tackle themes like unequal pay between men and women, but also animal bloodsports, and the problems with euthanasia. A prerequisite for the course is having completed level A1. During this course, you will learn vocabulary connected with our themes, and become acquainted with basic phrases with which to explain your ideas. Each lesson will incorporate group activities. |
| B1: MON+WED, 9:00–11:30 (online) | Are you interested in real-life Czech and Czech culture? Do you want to learn words and phrases that you won't find in textbooks? Then this is the course for you! Our goal is to overcome our fears of speaking, explore new themes, get to know one another, and focus on basic and common mistakes made when speaking. Themes like cooking, shopping, and travel await us, along with lots of improvisation. |
| B1: TUE+THU, 17:30–20:00 | Songs as a route into a language and culture. On this course we will focus on Czech songs, classic hits and more modern compositions. We will listen to - but also discuss and create - songs, and perhaps even sing them! By means of music you will discover the richness of Czech culture and gain not only new vocabulary, but also a deeper understanding of the Czech language and our wonderful Czech society. |
